Your Voice Matters: Join the Conversation About the Future of TCM in BC

4 min read

With the BC provincial election approaching, now is the time to make sure candidates hear from the TCM community! ATCMA encourages practitioners, students, patients, and TCM supporters to attend a non-partisan press briefing organized by CTCMDA on October 13 to learn where attending candidates and MLAs stand on issues affecting TCM and acupuncture in BC. Join us in showing that our profession matters and that we want to be part of the conversation about the future of healthcare in British Columbia.

With the BC provincial election approaching, now is an important time for our community to engage with election candidates and learn where they stand on issues affecting Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and acupuncture in British Columbia.

The Canadian Traditional Chinese Medicine Development Alliance (CTCMDA) is organizing a press briefing on TCM and acupuncture development in BC, bringing together provincial election candidates, MLAs, practitioners, and community stakeholders to discuss the future of our profession.

ATCMA encourages our members and the wider TCM community to attend, show their support of our profession, and learn about the election candidates’ stances on TCM-related issues.

Event Details

  • Date: Tuesday, October 13, 2026
  • Time: 7:30 PM
  • Location: 125 – 11300 No. 5 Road, Richmond, BC
  • Event organizer: Canadian Traditional Chinese Medicine Development Alliance (CTCMDA)

Read the full event announcement at https://lahoo.ca/2026/10/06/819342.

Why Should You Attend?

Decisions made by the provincial government can affect the future of TCM practitioners, our professional scope, patient access to care, and the recognition of TCM within BC's healthcare system.

This event is an opportunity to hear directly from attending candidates and MLAs, learn about their perspectives, and ask questions about issues that matter to you.

Whether you are a licensed TCM professional, a TCM student, a patient, or other person who values TCM, your presence helps demonstrate that our profession and community are engaged and paying attention.

What Issues Matter to You?

Consider what you would like candidates to address, including:

  • Access to TCM care: How can the government support safe, accessible TCM and acupuncture services for British Columbians?
  • Professional scope of practice: How will candidates approach the recognition and development of TCM practitioners' training, skills, and professional scope?
  • Chinese herbal medicine: What are their views on protecting the public while recognizing the specialized education and expertise of qualified TCM professionals?
  • TCM in the healthcare system: What opportunities do they see for TCM and acupuncture to contribute to healthcare in BC?
  • Support for practitioners and small businesses: How might their policies affect practitioners, clinics, and the communities they serve?

A Non-Partisan Invitation

This is a non-partisan invitation. ATCMA is not endorsing any political party or candidate through this announcement. We encourage attendees to approach the event with an open mind, learn about the perspectives of the candidates and parties represented, and make their own informed decisions.

The purpose is to encourage informed dialogue about issues important to TCM professionals, patients, and supporters—not to promote one party over another.

Join Us in Making Our Voices Heard

Please consider attending on October 13. Encourage your colleagues, classmates, patients, and your MLA candidates to join the conversation.

For BC political-party caucuses, provincial-election candidates, MLAs, media representatives, please confirm attendance by 3:00 p.m. on October 12, 2026 by emailing pr@ctcmda.ca.

The future of our profession matters to all of us. By showing up and engaging respectfully with candidates, we can help ensure that TCM and acupuncture remain part of the conversation about healthcare in British Columbia.

Your voice matters. Your participation matters. Let's make sure candidates hear from the people who care about TCM.

Chinese Herbal Formulas and Chiropractic Scope: Is There an Issue?

ATCMA has reviewed CCHPBC’s new Clinical Practice Standard on herbal medicines and natural health products and consulted with the BC Chiropractic Association. Our review found no evidence that the standard expands chiropractors’ scope of practice or newly authorizes them to prescribe Chinese herbal formulas. ATCMA continues to focus on restoring the restricted activity for prescribing and designing Chinese herbal formulas to protect the public and recognize the training of regulated TCM professionals.

ATCMA Responds to CCHPBC Consultation on Herbal Medicine Clinical Practice Standard

ATCMA has submitted feedback to CCHPBC on the proposed Clinical Practice Standard for designing, compounding, and dispensing herbal medicines and natural health products. While ATCMA supports clear clinical standards for regulated professionals, the standard does not address the underlying concern about who is legally authorized to prescribe, design, compound, and dispense Chinese herbal formulas. TCM practitioners are encouraged to review the consultation and submit their own feedback by October 9, 2026.

Chinese Herbal Formula Prescribing: The BC Government’s New Q&A

The BC Government has released a new Q&A clarifying the current status of Chinese herbal formula prescribing under the HPOA. While the Q&A confirms that TCM professionals have not lost the ability to prescribe, compound or dispense Chinese herbal formulas, ATCMA’s key concern—ensuring unregulated individuals cannot prescribe these specialized remedies—remains unresolved.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

These terms and conditions (the "Terms and Conditions") govern the use of atma.org (the "Site"). This Site is owned and operated by ATCMA. This Site is an ecommerce website.

By using this Site, you indicate that you have read and understand these Terms and Conditions and agree to abide by them at all times.

Membership Subscription — Payment, Renewal, and Refund Policy

Membership with the British Columbia Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture Practitioners (ATCMA) is offered on an annual subscription basis. Practitioner, Supporting, and Student memberships are set to automatically renew each year to ensure uninterrupted access to member benefits, professional resources, advocacy support, and insurance discounts.

By enrolling in a membership subscription, members authorize automatic annual renewal using the payment method on file. Prior to the renewal date, our secure external payment provider will issue an automated email reminder notifying members of the upcoming charge. This advance notice provides the opportunity to review, update, or cancel the subscription before the renewal is processed.

ATCMA may occasionally change subscription fees, and notice will be delivered in advance to all members via email prior to these changes.

Membership Subscription Cancellation Rights
Members may cancel their membership at any time — whether before or after a renewal date — by providing written notice to info@atcma.org . No cancellation fee or penalty will apply.

Membership Subscription Refunds
  • If ATCMA receives written notice of cancellation within 7 days of the date a membership fee is paid (whether for a first-time membership, renewal, or reinstatement), the member will receive a full refund, with no deductions or penalties.
  • If written notice is received after 7 days, the member will receive a prorated refund, calculated based on the number of days remaining in the membership period from the date ATCMA receives the notice.

Lifetime Membership — Refund and Cancellation Policy

A Lifetime Membership is a one-time payment that provides the member with ongoing access to all of ATCMA's member benefits for the duration of their lifetime membership.

Non-Refundable
Once the 7-day cooling-off period described below has passed, Lifetime Membership payments are non-refundable. This policy is disclosed to all members prior to purchase.

7-Day Cooling-Off Period
Members who wish to cancel their Lifetime Membership and receive a full refund of the amount paid may do so by submitting a written request to ATCMA within 7 days of the date payment was made. Requests must be submitted in writing to info@atcma.org. The date ATCMA receives the written request — not the date it is sent — determines whether the request falls within the cooling-off period.

Refund requests received after the 7-day cooling-off period has ended will not be granted, and the Lifetime Membership will remain non-refundable.

100% of the amount paid

30–59 days before the event/course date

50% of the amount paid

7–29 days before the event/course date

25% of the amount paid

Less than 7 days before the event/course date

No refund

Cancellation notices must be submitted in writing to info@atcma.org. The date ATCMA receives your notice — not the date it is sent — determines which refund tier applies.

If ATCMA Cancels an Event or Course
If ATCMA cancels a scheduled event or course for any reason, all registered participants will receive a full refund of the amount paid, regardless of the notice periods above. ATCMA is not responsible for any related costs incurred by participants, such as travel or accommodation.

Processing
Approved refunds will be issued within 15 business days of ATCMA receiving your cancellation notice (or of ATCMA's own cancellation of the event/course), using the same payment method originally used, where possible.

We reserve the right to modify, reject or cancel your order whenever it becomes necessary. If we cancel your order and have already processed your payment, we will give you a refund equal to the amount you paid. You agree that it is your responsibility to monitor your payment instrument to verify receipt of any refund.

  • Credit Card

When you provide us with your payment information, you authorize our use of and access to the payment instrument you have chosen to use. By providing us with your payment information, you authorize us to charge the amount due to this payment instrument.
